Haryana Social Welfare Minister Kavita Jain paid rich tributes to ninth Sikh master, Guru Teg Bahadur, on the occasion of “Shaheedi Gurpurab” at Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Memorial, near Badhkhalsa village, on GT Road.

The minister said Guru Teg Bahadur’s martyrdom for the cause of Hindu Brahmins was an example of supreme sacrifice. “We should always feel proud of such selfless sacrifice of life in the service of society and mankind,” she said.

She recalled that Bhai Jaita Singh made night stay at this village while carrying the head of Guru Teg Bahadur from Chandni Chowk, Delhi. In order to mislead soldiers of Mughal army, who were searching for Bhai Jaita, one of the village elders offered his head saying that it was that of Guru Teg Bahadur. There after the village was renamed as Badhkhalsa. Shri Guru Teg Bahadur memorial was constructed by the Haryana government in 2002.
