Chandigarh, November 24-
Local golfer Vasundhara Thiara brought laurels to the city by winning the IGU Eastern India Ladies and Junior Girls Golf Tournament organised by Tollygunje Club at Kolkata from November 17 to 20.
On day one, Vasundhara shot the second-best score amongst all categories. Her victory came with a 20-foot putt for a birdie on the last hole. This is Vasundhara’s third win at the club.
The local golfer has won three of the six ladies and junior girls tournaments played this year so far.
Talking to mediapersons at the CGA Golf Range, Vasundhara maintained that she was practising hard under the guidance of her coach Jesse Grewal. “I am improving my existing strokes and also working on increasing the repertoire of shots. I also spend a substantial amount of time with mental-strengthening trainer Irina Brar. I aim at competing international events at the highest level in 2018-2019,” said Thiara.
The 11-year-old golfer is a student of Vivek High School, Chandigarh. Last year, she finished first in girls’ category D, as per the Indian Golf Union order of merit.
