New Delhi, December 12

Amid conflicting claims of its origins and ownership, several parliamentarians, including those from the Samajwadi Party whose member initiated the controversy, today sounded a consonant note on the view that the monument of love —Taj Mahal — should not be politicised.

Agreeing to the point made by Md Nadimul Haque of the Trinamool Congress during the Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha, members demanded that the character and status of the “heritage” mausoleum should be left as it is. Naresh Aggarwal of the Samajwadi Party demanded a resolution on not making Taj Mahal an issue of politics.
