Ludhiana, December 14

Rainfall of 42.2 mm within 24 hours led to a sudden dip in the temperature. It is the highest rainfall recorded since the beginning of December.

According to the Punjab Agricultural University observatory, the maximum temperature recorded during the day was 15.6 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature recorded till 7:30 pm was 11 degrees Celsius.

LK Dhaliwal, Director, School of Climate Change and Agriculture Metrology, said rainfall coupled with snowfall on higher ranges led to the fall in the temperature.

City roads wore a deserted look during the morning and residents preferred to stay indoors.

Though the rain stopped, chilly winds made life miserable. During the late afternoon, the city witnessed some sunshine. Shops selling woollens witnessed a spurt in the sale.

Monika Jindal, a resident, said: “After remaining inside the home since morning, we visited the market during the afternoon. In the evening, the chill weather again made things worse.”

The weather forecast does not show any respite from the cold weather in the coming days as well.

“It was cold outside and I, along with my family, decided to confine at home. Even staying indoors did not provide any respite from the chill. Fortunately, there was no waterlogging due to midnight thundershowers,” said Tarun Kumar of Civil Lines.
