GNPS, PGGCW in basketball final

Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36, will face the Post Graduate Government College for Women (PGGCW), Sector 11, in the final of the basketball event in the ongoing Chandigarh State Women Competition.

Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36, will face the Post Graduate Government College for Women (PGGCW), Sector 11, in the final of the basketball event in the ongoing Chandigarh State Women Competition. The competition has been organised by the UT Sports Department.

In the semifinals played today, the first finalist Shri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26, posted a convincing 33-43 win over the rivals. For the winning side, Akshita scripted victory by contributing 21 points while Amrinder and Sukhman contributed 12 points each to confirm the triumph.

For the losing side, Harmit contributed 14 points while Kriti (11 points) and Payal (6 points) contributed their shares to reduce the margin.

In the second semifinal, the Post Graduate Government College for Women, Sector 11, outplayed Sports Complex, Sector 7, 36-07.

For the winning side, Anju shared a major share with her contribution of 13 points while Amrinder added 11 points to the team’s total. For the losing side, Kensiya was the only main scorer with her contribution of 4 points.

Earlier, the Post Graduate Government College for Women, Sector 11, defeated Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Sector 20, 67-33. Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36, defeated Sports Complex, Sector 46, 58-25.

In the next knockout stage, Shri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26, beat Carmel Convent School 36-14 while Athletics Club, Sector 7, posted 49-30 win over IS Dev Samaj School Club, Sector 21.

Double delight for shuttler Kawaljeet

Shuttler Kawaljeet bagged titles in singles’ and doubles’ category in the badminton’s final. The event concluded at the Sports Complex of Sector 42. In the singles’ final, Kawaljeet outplayed Nisha. After sinking in the first set 14-21, Kawaljeet emerged good in last two sets 21-9 and 21-17 to claim the title. Earlier, in the semifinals, Kawaljeet defeated Saniya 21-17 and 21-16 while Nisha outclassed Garima 21-11 and 21-17. In the doubles’ final, pair of Kawaljeet and Sania overpowered Garima and Romil in straight games 21-15 and 21-6 to claim the honour. Earlier, in the semifinal, Kawaljeet and Saniya beat Manat and Dea 21-12, 21-7 while Garima and Ramil overpowered Uma and Akriti 21-5, 21-6.

Kalyani of SD College wins table tennis title

In a closely-contested final of table tennis, Kalyani of SD College, Sector 32, overpowered Naina Suri from the same college 3-2. The title winner, after winning the opening game 3-1 went down in next 7-11. In the next set, Kalyani played well and claimed the set with narrow margin 11-9. In the fourth set, Naina again bounced back and took the charge to level the set (12-14) 2-2. In the decider, Kalyani maintained her cool and posted 13-11 victory to seal the win in her favour.

Earlier, in the semifinals, Naina Suri beat Richa 3-0 (11/8, 11/5, 11/5) while Kalyani beat Sheetal of Panjab University Campus 3-0 (11/9, 11/8, 13/11). In the hard line match, Richa beat Sheetal of Panjab University campus 3/1 (11/9, 8/11, 11/7, 12/10).
