UT to implement direct benefit transfer from Jan 1

UT Adviser KK Sharma today held a meeting to review the Direct Benefit Transfer LPG (DBTL) to be launched in Chandigarh from January 1, 2015.

BS Bhalla, Secretary, Food Supplies and Consumer Affairs; Chandigarh, Danish Ashraf, Joint Director Food and Supplies and SK Sharma, GM (LPG), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), was also present with his team.

The DBTL scheme was launched on June 1, 2013, and covered 291 districts. It required consumers to have a mandatory Aadhaar number for availing LPG subsidy. However, this was stopped in March 2014 following the court orders.

The scheme will now be re-launched with a few modifications in the city from January 1.

Under the scheme, customers can buy cooking gas cylinders at the market price and will get the subsidy directly in their bank accounts.

The cash equivalent to the difference between the current subsidised rate and the market price will be transferred to the bank accounts.

On the first booking, after joining the scheme, a one-time permanent advance of Rs 568 will be transferred to the customer’s account to enable him to buy the refill at the market rate.

On the delivery of the cylinder to the customer, the subsidy amount will be transferred within 3-4 days in the customer’s account which is linked for a subsidy transfer.
