Jind, November 30
After facing neglect during the 10-year Congress rule, Chaudhary Birender Singh, Union Minister of Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Sanitation and Drinking Water, was accorded a welcome of sorts from the Jind administration today.
During his first visit to his home district after becoming a member of the Union Cabinet, many senior BJP leaders, who opposed the induction of Chaudhary, were seen welcoming him with garlands.
Sources in the BJP said though Chaudhary joined BJP around three months back after serving the Congress for over four decades, his induction into the Union Cabinet has sent strong signals among state BJP leaders and compelled even the most senior BJP leaders to accept him as the Jat leader in the state.
“I don’t want to see a long list of pending grievances of residents from Jind district. Redress their complaints at the earliest,” Chaudhary directed senior officers of the administration during his meeting.
Interestingly, there was no specific programme about Chaudhary meeting the party workers and his supporters, but after getting information about his visit many locals and residents of surrounding villages reached the guest house and aired their grievances against the local administration for not redressing their complaints.
Well aware about Chaudhary’s nature to not miss a chance to criticise bureaucrats for their faults, the entire administration including Jind SP Badan Singh, ADC Bhal Singh Bishnoi and SDM Virender Sehrawat were on their toes during Chaudhary’s hour-long stay in the local PWD guest house.
