Residents of various areas of the Chenab region, especially Doda town, are facing acute power shortage.
“Though our area is metered, the department goes for unscheduled and extended power cuts. In the past few days, our area has witnessed several unscheduled power cuts,” said a shopkeeper from Doda town.
Locals said they were irked by the power cuts as they needed electricity to keep themselves warm.
The region only gets power supply for just 10 to 12 hours a day. “In our area there is no power cut schedule and it is up to Power Development Department (PDD) employees to cut off electricity and they do it frequently,” said Sahil, a Doda resident.
After people failed to get a proper response from the PDD, they choose social networking sites to bring the issue to the notice of the district administration.
Deputy Commissioner, Doda, Shyam Vinod Meena, said: “Honestly, I am trying my best. I have requested the PDD several times, but nothing happened.”
“I am taking all responsibility and assure you to improve and streamline everything within 15 days,” he added.
Assistant Executive Engineer, Doda, Gopal Singh said: “The problem is in our grid station as we have only 20 MW transformer, but in our receiving station, we have 30 MW transformer.”
