Aasan (Rohtak), December 3
Tension brewed in Aasan village located on the Rohtak-Sonepat road as a girl belonging to the Jat community reportedly eloped with a Dalit youth of the same village.
A tense atmosphere was already prevailing in the village as the three youths named in the alleged case of molestation with two sisters on board a Haryana Roadways' bus also belong to the same village.
Police sources and village residents said a young woman belonging to the Jat community, who had gone to her friend’s house in the neighbourhood last evening, did not return till late in the night.
While the girl’s family members were looking for her, they came to know that she had reportedly eloped with Raja, a Dalit youth of the same village. The girl’s family members then went to Raja’s house where his family members informed them that he, too, had been missing.
Following this, the girl’s family members reported the matter to the police. A police team then reached the village and took stock of the situation.
Local sources said the girl’s family members and other supporters had given a two-day ultimatum to the Dalit youth’s family to produce the girl within two days or face the consequences. The police, however, denied information of any such ultimatum/deadline.
A case has been registered on the basis of a complaint submitted by the girl’s father. Police vehicles were seen patrolling on the village roads as a precautionary measure.
