Patiala, December 22

Four persons, including a woman, were killed after a PRTC bus and a truck-trailer collided head on near the Nial bypass at Patran today. The incident occurred around 11 am when the trailer was coming from Sangrur and the bus was on its way from Patran to Patiala.

Truck-trailer driver Randhir Singh of Shahpur in Gurdaspur district, Baldev Singh of Dhuhar village and Gurnam Singh of Dhabbi Gujran died on the spot. Paramjeet Kaur died while she was being taken to Government Rajindra Hospital. District administration officials and the police rushed to the spot.

Assistant Sub Inspector, Patran police station, Harminder Singh said the bus had about 40 passengers on board. Around 28 injured persons were rushed to Sri Durga Dal Charitable Hospital in Patran, from where five were referred to Rajindra Hospital. These were Dayawanti of Jogewala village, Paramjeet Kaur of Kronda village, Dhufa of Kangthali village, Gurlal Singh of Gobindpur Paind and Shashi Singla of Patran. While Paramjeet died on the way, the condition of all others is said to be stable.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has announced Rs 1 lakh each for family members of the deceased.
