Ludhiana, December 22

Aided Schools Union is demanding a merger of aided schools employees with the government schools. The union alleged that they have been struggling for the last three years to make their demands meet.

The press secretary of the union, Davinder Rehan, said aided school employees had not received their salary from September and the third installment of arrears had also been lying pending in treasury offices for the last three months.

The Punjab government has put teachers in financial hardship by not releasing their salaries for the past three months, he said.

The district president, Savinderjit Kaur, accused successive governments of ignoring their demands for a long time. The activists alleged that the families of 4,000 teachers working at 484 private aided schools had been suffering due to the alleged lack of concern on the part of the Education and Finance Departments towards regular payment of allowances and salaries. The union members alleged that even the management committees of their schools did not come to their rescue.
