Sangrur Dalits get their land back

SANGRUR: With the help of the police, the Lehragaga administration today removed encroachments from the plots allotted to Dalit labourers in Khokhar Kalan village near Lehragaga.

Sangrur, December 22

With the help of the police, the Lehragaga administration today removed encroachments from the plots allotted to Dalit labourers in Khokhar Kalan village near Lehragaga. The land was allotted to them over three decades ago.

The Dalits, led by district president of Mazdoor Mukti Morcha Gobind Singh Chhajli, have been protesting since December 15 to get the encroachments removed.

Following the removal of the structures, the activists ended their dharna outside the office of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Lehragaga. Chhajli said they were relieved that the possession of the land had been handed over to Dalit labourers. He said the labourers had put up tents on the plots to take the possession of the land. — TNS
