Governor Aziz Qureshi said here today that Jesus Christ was an incarnation of love, compassion and hope and all his actions inspired everyone to live in harmony and help the weak.
He said everyone should be proud of our Constitution which gave followers of various religions freedom of worship. “All religions teach love, humanity and peace and under the shelter of democracy, humanity is safe in India,” he added.
The Governor was speaking as the chief guest of a Christmas programme organised by Himalayan Torchbearers at Raj Bhavan here last evening. He appreciated the work done in the field of education and health by Christian missionaries. He said in India, these missionaries had started their service even before the British rule. “Serving humanity is the greatest religion,” he added.
He greeted the representatives of various Christian institutions and organisations on Christmas and wished them a bright and happy future.
Students of the Moravian Institute, Usha group, HTB Academy (Kothalgate) and Tibetan institutions sung songs and carols. Chris Thomas from the USA, a special guest, and Mussoorie MLA Ganesh Joshi expressed their views. Uttarakhand Horticulture and Forestry University Vice-Chancellor Dr Mathew Prasad, former Chief Secretary SK Das, Uttarakhand Minority Commission chairman Narendar Bindra, Brig AN Bahuguna (retd) from Sainik Kalyan Nigam, Himalayan Torchbearers director Dr Satish John, other officials of Himalayan Torchbearers and several teachers, students and members of Christian institutions were present.
