Kurukshetra, December 19

The Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) will raise the issue of Sikh prisoners with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. The committee has sent a letter to the minister seeking time for a meeting to discuss the HSGMC act and raise prisoners’ issue.

Talking to The Tribune, HSGMC chief Jagdish Singh Jhinda said, “The Sikh community must not feel that it’s a minority and being deprived of its rights.”

About the prisoners’ issue, Jhinda said, “The committee has already extended support to Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, who has been fasting at Lakhnaur Sahib Gurdwara near Ambala to secure the release of seven Sikh prisoners.” “If any Bill is required for this, the Centre must introduce and pass it in the ongoing session,” he said.

Jhinda condemned the attack on BJP leader Navjot Singh Sidhu and said, “Whatever happened with Sidhu was unfortunate and the HSGMC strongly condemns the incident.”

Panel announces support for Khalsa

Kaithal: The HSGMC announced support for Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, who has been on an indefinite fast at Gurdwara Lakhnaur Sahib near Ambala for the release of jailed Sikhs.

The HSGMC decided at its executive committee meeting at Neem Sahib Gurudwara here last evening to meet Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh for their support in the case pending in the Supreme Court against the formation of the HSGMC. HSGMC general secretary Joga Singh said: “SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar met Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday and demanded the scrapping of the HSGMC despite the fact that the matter is in the apex court. We want to meet the CM and the Union Home Minister to clarify the facts on the formation of the HSGMC.”
