Jalandhar, December 5

Following a complaint lodged by the Congress councillors against a Building Inspector and an Assistant Town Planner of the Municipal Corporation for their alleged connivance in allowing some builders to raise illegal constructions in the city, the MC Commissioner has today written to the Director Local Bodies giving his recommendation for getting the two employees suspended.

Leader of the Opposition in MC House Jagdish Raja and other party councillors met Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Khehra in this regard. Former councillor Kuldip Mintu said that he had given a complaint on the matter to the Commissioner on September 12 wherein he had provided him a list of nearly 10 commercial buildings that had come up illegally in Basti Guzan, Basti Nau and Basti Danishmandan areas with the patronage of the staff of the Town Planning department.

The list includes shops in front of Baba Balak Nath Mandir in Basti Guzan, a departmental store in front of PSPCL complaint office in the same colony, a sports shop in Basti Nau, and buildings in JP Nagar and Adarsh Nagar. The Senior Town Planner had been asked to hold an inquiry into the matter last week.

Today after the councillors put up the issue again, the Commissioner after seeking the report from the STP sent recommendation of placing the area inspector and ATP under suspension to Director Local Bodies.
