New Delhi, December 12
BJP’s Sakshi Maharaj today gave in to Opposition pressure saying he regretted calling Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse a patriot. The apology came after consistent pressure mounted on the BJP member by the Congress led opposition which forced one adjournment of the Question Hour on the issue.
Soon as the House met, Speaker Sumita Mahajan rejected Opposition’s motions for adjournment of the Question Hour causing an adamant Opposition to storm the well of the House in support of their demand.
In a first, Congress president Sonia Gandhi was seen joining her sloganeering colleagues from her seat in the front row.
Amid uproar, Sakshi Maharaj got up to offer an apology of sorts saying: “I have already withdrawn my remarks but my friends in the Opposition seem to have an issue. While Godse killed the Mahatma many years ago, the Congress killed the Mahatma’s ideology in 1984.”
