Double standards are being followed by student parties for the safety of hostellers at Panjab University. Surprisingly, a few months ago, when a girl student committed suicide in one of the hostels, the student parties alleged that the PU authorities were not serious about the safety of the hostel inmates. Recently, when the authorities decided to install a wire mesh on the top floor of hostels for safety purposes, the students had protested that it would suffocate the environment in hostels.

It’s all about attention

It seems that the student leaders at Panjab University only want attention. After carrying out regular protests and demonstrations over the proposed fee hike, as soon as these representatives of different student unions realised that none was paying heed, they switched over to another issue. To continue their protests, the student leaders stated that food items at PU eateries are overpriced.

Testing time for officials

Pending orders for the outgoing sitting Adviser to the UT Administrator, KK Sharma, to join his new assignment as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development at New Delhi, has everyone guessing in the UT Secretariat. Anticipating that the orders to relieve the Advisoe might come late, officials in the UT Home Department were seen on the weekend anxiously waiting for the “fax” to come from the MHA.

Commuter savvy

For those boarding trains from platform no. 2 to no. 4, it was a pleasant surprise to see escalators working on Saturday. Otherwise, forced to pull their luggage up the stairs, passengers were all smiles even as some were curious to know for how long the facility would be available.

Uncomfortable moment

Ever since the Registration and Licensing Authority started sending driving licences (DL) and registration document (RC) by post to the applications, the authority has been literally flooded with undelivered mail as the applicants were not found staying at the adrresses. Now, the authority has asked applicants to get their address details changed to surrender their claims.
