Zirakpur, December 6

Taking note of the news item published in these columns on Saturday, officials of the Zirakpur Municipal Council removed scores of hoardings from atop of various buildings and other places displayed by realtors and other companies along the highway.

The MC had hired a private contractor to pull down flexes and other publicity material displayed along the highway (especially within MC limits) in violation of the Punjab Haryana High Court directions.

However, massive hoardings still dot the Zirakpur-Patiala and Kalka-Ambala highway between Singhpura and Bhankharpur villages. The area falls under the jurisdictions of GMADA.

Parminder Singh, executive officer of the MC, claimed to have removed a majority of the hoardings and signboards from both the highways within Zirakpur Municipal limits. The remaining will be pulled down tomorrow or day after, he said. — TNS
