J&K Bank and MetLife India started their support programme of distributing winter kits among the flood-affected families here today.

Chairman and CEO Mushtaq Ahmad kicked off the programme at the bank’s corporate headquarters.

A bank official said 5,000 winter kits containing 10,000 blankets, 5,000 solar lamps, 5,000 hot water bottles and 5,000 non-electric water purifiers were handed over to the respective zonal heads of the bank for onward distribution among the already mapped worst-hit families across their service areas.

Mushtaq Ahmad said, “Being aware that the tough winter will only compound to the miseries of the flood victims, we are beginning our support programme today that will eventually cover more than 23,200 identified worst-hit families.”

The second phase of this support programme will be carried out exclusively by J&K Bank that will cover another 18,000 such families, the spokesman added.

Tarun Chugh, MD & CEO, PNB MetLife, said, “We express our sincere condolences to the aggrieved families and victims of the floods in Jammu and Kashmir. In this hour of need, we are committed to helping and supporting our customers, employees and the local community. While we have been settling claims in record time through our help desks, we also set up medical and relief camps for the local community.”
