The district administration has taken a unique initiative by directing all senior officers including IAS, IPS, and HCSs to adopt a village each where the sex ratio is skewed.
J Ganesan, DC, asked the officers to do this during a meeting for the implementation of the PNDT Act here today. We should all contribute for this noble cause as the sex-ratio in some villages was alarming. People should be educated about the need to improve the sex ratio, he added.
He asked Civil Surgeon Dr. Vandana Bhatia to identify the villages where the situation is alarming. The department would chalk a programme for these villages following which officers could tackle this burning social issue.
He said besides him, all SPs, ADCs, SDMs, DROs, DDPOs and other HCSs officers will adopt a village each. The villages where the sex ratio was at its lowest would be allotted first.
Dr. Bhatia said that the sex-ratio in the district was 882, but we have some villages, where the situation alarming. Some of these villages were situated near the borders of the neighbouring districts.
To check the sex-ratio and illegal determination of sex, special measures were being taken by the health department. An award of Rs 50,000 would be given to any person who reports any violation of the PNDT Act by any doctor, clinic or person, she said.
DSP Raj Kumar said they were ready to provide help if raids were to be carried out in this context.
