Jalandhar,December 21
Residents of Nakodar have filed a complaint regarding choked sewer lines with the Executive Officer (EO) of the Municipal Council. The residents have threatened that if their problem is not resolved, they would file a fresh complaint with the Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar, in this regard.
Gaurav Jain, an environmentalist, who had taken up the issue of garbage dumps in the High Court, informed that the residents had filed a complaint a week ago but the MC has not been paying heed to it.
“Due to the choked sewerage, sewage has accumulated on the road. Sewage has also entered the houses making the life of residents miserable. We are prone to water-borne diseases and if immediate steps are not taken, vector-borne diseases may break out in the area,” Jain said, adding that reminders had been served to the MC officials, but they had not cared to visit the spot.
Balwant Singh, a resident of Khairya mohalla, said the choked sewerage had made their lives hell. “The foul smell has spread all over making it difficult to even sit in the house. I request the MC officials to take immediate step to tackle the problem,” he added.
Jain felt that the overflowing sewage is also causing cracks on the roads.
Residents, meanwhile, threatened that if the MC did not act on their complaint, they would go and meet the DC, Jalandhar, on the issue.
