Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has kicked up a row with his request seeking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention for speeding up Mumbai’s infrastructure projects.
NCP leader Sharad Pawar was the first to object to Fadnavis’ request. In a letter to Modi, Pawar said the PM should not accept this responsibility. The Maratha strongman, who is recuperating at a Mumbai hospital, added that the PM’s involvement in the matter would raise questions over Maharashtra’s autonomy in the country’s federal structure.
Pawar said Modi’s involvement in matters concerning Maharashtra would also send a wrong message since the state has unresolved issues with the PM’s home state.
