Srinagar, December 21

As traffic jams have become the order of the day in the Ram Bagh area, the authorities concerned have now decided to divert the traffic from Iqbal Park via Naaz Crossing to ensure smooth flow of vehicles.

An official of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) said during a meeting of the officials of the district administration and the police it was decided that all vehicles plying from Lal Chowk towards Ram Bagh and onward areas will be diverted from Iqbal Park via Naaz Crossing towards Lal Ded Hospital route to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

SMC Commissioner GN Qasba has further directed the Chief Enforcement Officer of the corporation to launch a vigorous anti-encroachment drive and remove all street vendors in these areas. He said the people concerned would be served notices in advance before getting them vacated.

“An action under rules will be taken against those vendors who shall not comply with the directions,” Qasba added. Traffic from several routes such as Rangreth, Chanapora, Budgam and Hyderpora converge at Ram Bagh leading to chaos on roads. The snarls compounded after the works on the Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh flyover started.
