Denied medical aid by father, infant dies

A 10-month-old died in Sirsa’s Choburja village after his father did not provide medial aid to the ailing infant due to a marital discord with his wife.

The child’s maternal grandfather approached the police with a complaint against Ram Chander accusing him of causing the infant’s death due to negligence. Shyam Lal of Nejadela Kalan said his daughter Rekha was married to Ram Chander two years back. He said Ram Chander had been harassing his daughter for dowry and he had tried to counsel his son-in-law several times.

Shyam Lal said some days ago, the couple’s 10-month-old son Sumit developed fever, but Ram Chander refused to take the child to a doctor despite Rekha’s repeated requests. The infant’s condition worsened over the days and yesterday Rekha took a neighbour’s help to take the child to a doctor for treatment, but the child died.

The police took the infant’s body into custody and sent it to for a post-mortem on Shyam Lal’s complaint.
