New Delhi, December 13

Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, the AAP national convener and former Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, today wooed schoolteachers in the national Capital and assured them to meet their long-pending demands, related to fixing their pay grade as per the Sixth Pay Commission, providing earned leaves and cashless medical facility to them.
"Education is AAP's first priority and teachers too. We dream of a society in which the teaching community will play a pivotal role in improving and building the new society. Be it a new building or playground, we will make sure facilities are provided. I want a society where kids dream of becoming teachers. After completing Class XII, a student should say I would like to become a teacher than an IAS officer," said Kejriwal, a former IRS officer, while addressing a gathering of Delhi All Schools of Teachers Association of NCT (DASTAN) at Constitution Club.
"Fixing your salaries as per the Sixth Pay Commission is easier than slashing the electricity and water tariff. You should get more than the Sixth Pay Commission," he said while noting that teachers should get earned leave and the cashless scheme instead of reference system for illness while assuring that his party will regularise the service of guest teachers.
"We will make sure that guest teachers get permanent job. We will ensure that a teacher does only a teacher's job.  We want to restore the dignity of teachers," he added.
