Kanso, 60, a resident of Charpur village in Ajnala who had undergone surgery at an eye camp organised by a Mathura NGO in Gudaspur, died late last night. The family members of the deceased claimed she had died of infection.
The family claimed that the doctors had not referred her to Ram Lal Eye Hospital, claiming she would be cured with the help of medicines. “However, seven other patients from the area were referred to the Amritsar hospital the same day,” they said. Dr Karanjit Singh said they had no official information about the death.
The deceased’s son Hardev Singh and daughter Gurmito claimed Kanso was in intense pain because of the eye infection. Senior Medical Officer at the Civil Hospital at Ajnala, Dr Ashok Arora, said: “No such case has been brought to my knowledge. We cannot ascertain the cause of death without a post-mortem.”
