Sun in Shimla, fog in plains

CHANDIGARH/SHIMLA: Moderate to thick fog affected normal life in some parts of Punjab and Haryana on Wednesday morning, slowing road and railway traffic, while people in Shimla and its nearby tourist spots in Himachal were greeted by sunny weather.

Moderate to thick fog affected normal life in some parts of Punjab and Haryana on Wednesday morning, slowing road and railway traffic, while people in Shimla and its nearby tourist spots in Himachal were greeted by sunny weather.

The weather officials here said a thick blanket of fog was witnessed in Amritsar city in the morning and the visibility was reduced to just 50 metres at some places.

Moderate fog was witnessed in the industrial city of Ludhiana and some other places.

In Chandigarh, the visibility was down to about 500 metres in some areas. However, sunshine was seen around 10 am.

In Haryana, moderate to thick fog was witnessed in Karnal and Kurukshetra districts. Fog was also witnessed in Ambala and Bhiwani districts, officials said.

Amritsar was the coldest in the region with a minimum temperature of three degrees Celsius Wednesday morning.

In Haryana, Hisar recorded a low of six degrees Celsius.

The Met Office said the foggy conditions are likely to intensify in coming days.

Sunny in Shimla after snow

The minimum temperature in Shimla was recorded at 2 degrees Celsius.

The meteorological office said the minimum temperature was higher than Tuesday's 0.7 degree.

The snowy landscape in Shimla and nearby destinations will remain like this till the weekend, the Met office added.

Keylong in the state's Lahaul-Spiti district was the coldest place, recording a low of 12.1 degrees below freezing.

Kalpa in Kinnaur district recorded a low of minus 3.8 degrees Celsius, while it was minus 4.8 degrees Celsius in Manali.

Dharamsala, headquarters of the Tibetan government-in-exile, registered 4 degrees.

According to the weather office, the weather will mainly remain clear in the state till on Saturday.
