Incidents of women creating ruckus at public places in inebriated condition are being more frequently reported in the city. It can be gauged from the fact that in 2014, the police control room has received over 40 such calls, though cases in only a few incidents were registered.

The incidents of women creating trouble in inebriated condition out in public have caught the attention of everyone in society. On an average, three such incidents were reported in the city every month.

Police sources said a majority of the incidents are reported during late hours outside pubs and night clubs.

Police officials said it was ensured that a woman constable was present in PCR vehicles that attend such calls.

“In many cases the women are let-off after medical examination with a warning,” police officials added.

Prof Rajesh Gill of Panjab University’s Sociology Department said the women in the name of freedom and gender equality had been involved in such incidents. However, they did not know the meaning of freedom.

“This is a negative motion of freedom as freedom comes with responsibility and accountability,” she said.

Professor Gill added that creating ruckus at public places in inebriated condition was wrong for both males and females.

Manipal Singh, a young advocate, said youth should ensure that they behave responsibly when they consume drinks at pubs and night clubs.
