The state government should review its education policy. Punjabi should be the first language in the state but the Education Minister should direct the District Education Officers to promote Hindi and English too in government schools. After their schooling, students move to higher institutes of learning where they have to attempt their answer papers in English or Hindi. Besides, students also prepare for ILETS and TOEFEL to improve their English speaking and writing skills.
If English and Hindi are promoted in government-run schools, the strength of the students will increase manifold because most students hesitate to join government schools due to poor infrastructure and absence of basic civic amenities. Government-run schools in Punjab should be converted into model schools by improving the basic infrastructure.
