A da4y after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Mann ki Baat” speech put Punjab Government in a spot on drugs; a major raid was conducted at a medicine manufacturing unit here today.

Around 1.89 lakh tablets of Provon Spas and 40,000 of Sublimol T were seized from JK Pharma Agency, a sister concern of Jackson Pharmaceutical Industries, a renowned manufacturing house.

A stop-production notice was slapped on the unit after the seizure. The notice would debar the company from manufacturing any medicines till further orders. The confiscated medicines are widely misused as intoxicants by drug addicts. It is for the first time that a manufacturing unit has been raided.

Even as thousands have been put behind bars following alleged confiscations of habit-forming drugs and other narcotics, the state machinery had failed to snap the supply line.

A team of drug inspectors Sukhdeep Singh, Bableen Kaur and Ramnik Singh accompanied by senior officials of the Tarn Taran police raided three premises of the firm. The team also seized around 5,000 injections of Oxytocin and some other medicines from company’s sale agency SVR Pharma agency at Katra Sher Singh.

The Tarn Taran police had earlier seized around 5 lakh tablets of habit-forming medicines from the car of one Gurbir Singh when he was stopped near Amarkot. Subsequent investigations by the police had brought the focus on Jackson Pharmaceutical Industries.
