Y’nagar stone-crushers likely to resume operations

Stone-crushers in this district are likely to be functional soon, as the district administration is working to provide an “access route” for transporting stones from Uttar Pradesh to the district.

Mining in Haryana has been banned since February 28, 2009. Hence, stone- crushers have been out of operation, resulting in the shortage of building material. The mining is allowed in Uttar Pradesh, 1 km from here. There is, however, no concrete road to reach mines in Uttar Pradesh.

Sources said Assembly Speaker Kanwar Pal Gurjar had, on December 4, met legislators of Sadhaura, Yamunanagar and Jagadhri, besides the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police to find a way for ferrying stones from UP to the stone-crushers in the district.

It has been learnt that officers suggested that an access route could be developed from the district’s Doiwala village, where stone-crushers are located, to Bailgarh village on the Haryana-UP border.

The proposed access route is forest land and a fire line of the Forest Department passes through it. This fire line will be developed as the access route that is 795 meter long and 7 meter wide. The local administration, in return, will give 14 kanal 12 marla of panchayat land in Devdhar village to the Forest Department.

Deputy Commissioner SS Phulia had, on December 9, written to the Additional Chief Secretary, Development and Panchayats Department, for the exchange of panchayat land with the forest one.

The stone-crusher zone is in Jagadhri Assembly constituency represented by Gurjar. He is keen to provide the access route to Yamunanagar stone-crushers that employ over 20,000 people.
