Jalandhar, December 22
The Regional Disease Diagnostics Laboratory (RDDL), Jalandhar, today started conducting tests on the samples of dead crows received from Pinjore and Tarn Taran.
Laboratory officials have also sent crow samples from both stations and a dead duck from Faridkot to the High Security Animal Disease Laboratory, Bhopal, for virus-isolation test.
RDDL Joint Director Dr Vinay Mohan said, “Crows seemed to have died four to five days ago. Since it is an unusual mortality of 500 crows, it needs to be checked thoroughly. The testing will take three-four days and the final report will be released via the GOI channel.”
He said the department was more worried over the death of 14 migratory birds at Jind. “We have asked the authorities to rush samples to us. A team is bringing samples to us and these may reach here this evening,” he said. — TNS
