Kin of Barotiwala perfume factory fire victims to get Rs 6.5L each: Himachal CM

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today met with the family members of the deceased and injured workers of the gutted perfume factory at Barotiwala in Solan district this evening. He said that Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri and other ministers had visited the area earlier. After they submitted a report, he came to inquire after the welfare of the injured workers, he added.

Sukhu expressed condolences to the bereaved families of the workers who had died in the blaze six days ago and directed the district administration to provide all possible assistance to them. He also met with the families of the missing workers and consoled them. He visited a private hospital at Jharmajri to inquire after the well-being of the injured workers admitted there.

He announced Rs 6.5 lakh each to the families of the deceased workers. The injured had already been provided Rs 5,000 each as immediate relief and Rs 50,000 per person would be provided soon. The state government had so far disbursed Rs 3.05 lakh as relief to the affected families, he added.

The Chief Minister said, “The state government stands firmly with the affected families in this hour of grief. It is our responsibility to provide all possible assistance and relief to them.” He also took stock of the situation at the factory and sought detailed information from the officers present.

Sukhu, while interacting with mediapersons later, said that the cause of the fire was being investigated and necessary amendments would be made to the law after consulting all stakeholders to ensure that such incidents don’t recur. He added that an FIR had been registered and strict action would be taken against the defaulters.

He said that smart metering and laying of underground electric cables in industrial belts would also be considered. Five people had died in the industry fire six days ago. A total of 37 persons were injured in the fire incident.
