Kotkapura verdict: Congress credibility hit, Advocate General must quit, says Partap Bajwa

Chandigarh, April 14

Holding Advocate General (AG) Atul Nanda responsible for failing to defend the SIT report in the Kotkapura firing case before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Rajya Sabha MP Partap Bajwa on Wednesday sought his resignation.

The quashing of the SIT report had resulted in the loss of face for the Congress government as a fair investigation in these cases and punishment for the guilty police officials was one of the most important poll promises, said Bajwa.

He said it was the duty of AG to appear and defend the state government in various courts. “In the present case, AG did not appear himself, but paid Rs 5.5 crore to lawyers from Delhi to defend the cases. It is the exchequer’s money that has been wasted by him by refusing to appear and defend the interests of the state in various cases. Against Rs 3,30,000 approved for a senior advocate on the panel, a Delhi lawyer was paid Rs 25 lakh per appearance,” said Bajwa, urging the CM to call an emergency meeting of all Congress MLAs, Ministers and MPs to have a threadbare discussion on the issue. — TNS
