Amritsar, February 24

The 67th annual athletics meet of DAV College, Amritsar, was held here today. The event commenced with the hoisting of the college flag by Principal Amardeep Gupta, BB Yadav, Prof Madan Mohan and Cabinet Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal.

Sports players pledged to abide by the rules of games and lit the torch. In his address to the students, minister Dhaliwal said sports are essential for a healthy and balanced life and girls should be encouraged to participate actively as it is through sports that physical fitness is achieved.

Principal Gupta encouraged students to incorporate both academics and sports in their lives. An overwhelming number of students and teaching and non-teaching staff participated with great zeal and enthusiasm in the event.

In the long jump category, Gurpreet Kaur of BA stood first, Urmila second and Ramandeep Kaur stood third. In 50-m skipping race (girls), Gurpreet Kaur of BA stood first, Urmila stood second and Ramandeep Kaur was third.
