This record is definitely going to tantalise your taste buds. Living up to Amritsar’s reputation as the ultimate food destination of India and an appetising feat, team of eight chefs from Taj Swarna today entered into record books by making world’s largest parantha at the ongoing Food Mela under the Rangla Punjab festival.

The team made an 8x4 feet dimension methi (fenugreek) parantha that weighed 37.5 kg. To make the parantha, a rolling pin weighing 22 kg was used.

As tempting as it may sound, the team practiced for seven to eight days consistently to get it right. “The eight chefs practiced for almost a week, starting at 4 kg, gradually reaching up to 13 kg. Before attempting the record, chefs were briefed by the Guinness team that they must surpass the minimum weight limit of 32 kg. But in the final run, they made a parantha weighing 37.5 kg,” informed Sudesh Singh, the event in-charge at Rangla Punjab.

The record has been registered in the name of the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Government of Punjab, in partnership with Taj Swarna and CS Direkt Events and Exhibitions Pvt Limited, which organised the event at Rangla Punjab.

Ghanshyam Thori, Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar, Neeru Katyal Gupta, Director, Tourism Department, and Bhupinder Singh Chana, Supervising Engineer, Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Punjab, received the certificate from the Guinness World Record team which was present for the event at Rangla Punjab festival.

More than seven quintals of flour was used to achieve this record, while a pan (tawa) weighing 14 kg was custom made in Delhi and then transported here to cook the parantha. The entire cooking was done using 14 burners. It took the team almost one-and-a-half-hour in total preparation and cooking the parantha live at the event today.
