Announced
To provide drinking water in the Kandi area of this district, Rs 42.31 lakh would be spent during this year. As many as 322 houses for the poor had been completed, Mr Sarup Singh, Minister of Urban Development and Housing, said while addressing a meeting of the Development and Planning Board here on Monday.
Programme
The state government is preparing a special programme to provide jobs to all those who have undergone job-oriented training within six-months, Dr Upinderjit Kaur, Minister for Technical Education and Industrial Training, said while addressing the local ITI, students on Monday. If any trainee did not get job, he would be provided loan to start self-employment, she added.

The construction of the local Ambedkar Bhavan has been completed, according to Mr Tota Singh, Punjab Education Minister, here on Tuesday. He said Rs 30 lakh had been spent on its construction.
Transplanted
As many as 85 blind persons in Moga and Ludhiana districts regained eyesight due to corneal transplantation done by the local Seva Bharati, its general secretary said on Tuesday.
Two killed
Two persons were killed and 17 injured when a tractor-trailer carrying them overturned near Landeke village on the Moga-Amritsar road on Sunday. The injured were admitted to the local Civil Hospital.

Convict escapes

A murder convict and an undertrial lodged in the local jail escaped after throwing chilli powder on the face of the jail guard last night, jail authorities said here today. Baljit Singh, a murder convict in the Jitender Pahal case, and Dilsher Singh, an undertrial, escaped in a Maruti Car.
