Hostages released
BOGOTA (Colombia), April 14 (AP) Leftist rebels
who hijacked Avianca domestic flight yesterday released
six hostages, five elderly persons and a baby, to the
International Red Cross. "We don't have their
identities, but we know that they are well", Mr
Rolin Wavre, Deputy Red Cross Chief for Colombia, told
the Associated Press.
3 killed in
mishap
MADURAI, April 14 (UNI) Three Railway employees
were mowed down by the Tirunelveli-Erode passenger train
at Kudalnagar on the city's outskirts this morning. Two
others were injured in the accident. According to Railway
sources, the mishap occurred when the victims, engaged in
maintenance work, failed to hear the approaching train.
Speed record
TOKYO, April 14 (DPA) Japanese monorail train
today established a new record high speed for a Railway
at 552 km per hour, 2 km per hour quicker than the
previous best, reports said. The Maglev Train, with a
linear induction motor, was running on an 18.4 km test
track in Yamanashi province West of Tokyo.
Delhi rocked
NEW DELHI, April 14 (PTI) A moderate tremor shook
the Capital and several parts of northern India at around
10.54 p.m. tonight, the Met Office said. The quake,
measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale, had its epicentre in
Chamoli district of Uttar Pradesh and lasted for nearly
20 seconds. "This is an aftershock of the earthquake
that hit northern India on March 29".
