India, Pakistan exchange fire
SRIGANGANAGAR, Aug 30 (PTI) — The Indian and Pakistani troops yesterday exchanged firing in Kankesinghwala under the Karanpur sector in Ganganagar district of Rajasthan, official sources said today. No casualty was reported on the Indian side. Sources said Pakistani rangers opened unprovoked firing on Indian post and the Border Security Force personnel retaliated.

Diana's anniversary
LONDON, Aug 30 (DPA, PTI) — Thousands placed flowers at the gates of Kensington Palace today on the eve of the second anniversary of Princess Diana's death. Princess Diana's sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, are to establish their own charitable trusts using a £ 1.5 million fund lying idle since their mother's death. The Princess of Wales' Charities Trust is to be wound up and its capital split equally into two separate trusts in the name of the Princes.

Bengal floods
MALDA (WB), Aug 30 (PTI) — Over 1,20,000 persons of Malda and North Dinajpur districts in North Bengal have been affected in flash floods triggered by heavy rains during the past few days, official sources said today.

New world record
BUDAPEST, Aug 30 (Reuters) — Hungarian disc jockey Imre Vass set a new Guinness world record at the weekend after spending more than 50 hours in front of a microphone, hosting a music programme on regional radio Cegled. "The original goal was 48 hours", Radio Cegled reporter Bernadett Becker told Reuters. Vass was allowed a 15-minute break every eight hours started on midnight Friday (10 p.m. GMT) and went on until 2:32 a.m. on Monday (12.32 a.m. GMT). This adds up to 50 hours and 32 minutes.

Crash at air show
KIEV, Aug 30 (DPA) — A light aircraft crashed after its engine failed during an air show yesterday in eastern Ukraine, killing the pilot of the Russian-built YAK-55T, the Interfax news agency reported.
