|PM briefs Narayanan
NEW DELHI, Dec 30 (PTI) Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee tonight called on President K.R.Narayanan and apprised him of the latest developments in the hijacking of the Indian Airlines flight IC-814.This is the first time that Mr Vajpayee has briefed Mr Narayanan on the crisis since the hijacking took place on December 24.
Housing subsidy for scribes hiked
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, Dec 30 (PTI) The Kerala Cabinet on Thursday decided to increase the housing subsidy for journalists in the state from Rs 35,000 to Rs 50,000. This was stated by Chief Minister E.K. Nayanar during his Cabinet briefing here. The Cabinet also decided to provide a job as a lower division clerk to the widow of Gunner Shajikumar, who died during operations in the Kargil sector.
|Home Ministers award
NEW DELHI, Dec 30 (FOC) The Principal Scientific Officer of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), Mr T.R. Nehra, has been awarded the Union Home Ministers award, 1998. The CFSL is run by the Central Bureau of Investigation. Mr Nehra belongs to Haryana. The award, which carries a cash prize of Rs 25,000, was conferred upon him by the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mr Digvijay Singh. Mr Nehra has been given the award for his contribution in the field of forensic documents examination which received international recognition.
Bombs hurled on jeep, 5 killed
AGARTALA, Dec 30 (UNI) At least five persons were killed and 11 injured when tribal guerrillas hurled powerful bombs on a jeep at Sidhai in West Tripura on Thursday. State police and Assam Rifles sources here said the militants threw bombs from a hill top killing five tribesmen on the spot. The injured were shifted to the hospital.
