Mr R.M. Gupta, District Sessions judge, here has
sentenced Rajinder Kumar of Kantian village to
life imprisonment under Section 302, IPC, for
killing his wife, Paramjit Kaur, on June 7,1996.
He has also been fined Rs 2000.

Bar Association: Mr Narinderjit Singh
Noor was elected president of the local district
Bar Association for the second consecutive year
on Wednesday. Mr Noor secured 71 votes while Mr
Paramjit Singh Hanspal, his opponent, got 42
votes.
LUDHIANA
Appointment of doctors: The Medical
Graduates Welfare Association, Punjab, has sought
immediate appointment of doctors as medical
officers in the PCMS. Dr Manjit Singh Halwara,
press secretary of the association, said nearly
500 dispensaries in the state were without
qualified doctors, and people in rural areas were
at the mercy of unregistered and unqualified
practitioners.

Camp: About 310 patients were examined
and 50 operations performed at a free eye
operation camp organised by Shaheed Udham Singh
Youth Services Club at Kheri Sodian village in
Dhuri subdivision on Wednesday.
PATIALA
Transferred: Dr S.S. Sidhu joined as
Principal, Government Medical College, here on
Thursday. He was transferred from Government
Medical College, Amritsar, where he was working
in the same capacity.
NPA
allowance: The Punjab Medical Officers
and Paramedical Staff Association of the PSEB has
decided to claim interest from the board on the
increased NPA at the rate of 25 per cent of the
basic pay and other allowances. In a statement
issued here on Thursday, Dr Naresh Raj, President
of the association said government employees were
getting NPA for the past six months, but the
board management had not released it despite
repeated reminders.
Eye
operation camp: The local Lions Club
Citizen organised a free eye operation camp at
Sauja village on Thursday. Medicines free of cost
were given to patients.

rally: The Rajindra Hospital Class IV

PHAGWARA
Two killed: Gulzar Singh (60) died on
the G.T. Road near Khajurla, 10 km from here, on
Thursday when his moped was hit by a Tata Sierra.
In another mishap, Gurmit Singh (50) was killed
when his motor cycle was hit by a four-wheeler
near Mehtan village.
SIRSA
Pending bills: The Haryana Vidyut
Prasaran Nigam here has announced a relief for
the pending bills in urban and rural areas of the
district. A spokesman of the nigam said here on
Thursday that the payment of these bills
amounting to Rs 500 in rural areas and more than
Rs 5000 in urban areas, would be accepted up to
February 28 without surcharge and additional
interest.
TARN TARAN
Principal sought: Mr Paramjit Singh, a
former sarpanch of Rasulpur village, has sought
the appointment of a regular principal at the
Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Kadgill. He
said the ITI had been running without a principal
since the institute started.
Dharna:
Patwaris here organised a dharna at the tehsil
complex on Thursday to press their demand. They
threatened to launch a statewide stir in case the
government failed to accept their demand till
February 25.
