Family welfare camp:
As many as 24 tubectomy and six vasectomy operations were performed at a family welfare camp held on Thursday at Sector Hospital, Border Security Force, here. It was organised with the assistance of the local district family planning medical team.

Mahila Morcha:
The following have been elected office-bearers of the Mahila Morcha here: President — Ms Harbhajan Kaur; Vice-Presidents — Ms Mohinder Kaur, Ms Ritu Sharma and Ms Krishna Parmar; General Secretary — Ms Santosh Malhotra and Treasurer — Ms Raj Thakur.

Sentenced: Mr R.M. Gupta, District Sessions judge, here has sentenced Rajinder Kumar of Kantian village to life imprisonment under Section 302, IPC, for killing his wife, Paramjit Kaur, on June 7,1996. He has also been fined Rs 2000.

Yuva Morcha: The following have been elected office-bearers of the local unit of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha: President — Mr Satish Thakur; Vice-Presidents — Mr Vir Karan Singh, Mr Satvir Singh and Mr Harish Kumar Chadha; General Secretary — Mr Manminder Singh; and Treasurer — Mr Rajan Sharma.

KAPURTHALA
Bar Association:
Mr Narinderjit Singh Noor was elected president of the local district Bar Association for the second consecutive year on Wednesday. Mr Noor secured 71 votes while Mr Paramjit Singh Hanspal, his opponent, got 42 votes.

LUDHIANA
Appointment of doctors:
The Medical Graduates Welfare Association, Punjab, has sought immediate appointment of doctors as medical officers in the PCMS. Dr Manjit Singh Halwara, press secretary of the association, said nearly 500 dispensaries in the state were without qualified doctors, and people in rural areas were at the mercy of unregistered and unqualified practitioners.

MALERKOTLA
Camp:
About 310 patients were examined and 50 operations performed at a free eye operation camp organised by Shaheed Udham Singh Youth Services Club at Kheri Sodian village in Dhuri subdivision on Wednesday.

PATIALA
Transferred:
Dr S.S. Sidhu joined as Principal, Government Medical College, here on Thursday. He was transferred from Government Medical College, Amritsar, where he was working in the same capacity.

NPA allowance: The Punjab Medical Officers and Paramedical Staff Association of the PSEB has decided to claim interest from the board on the increased NPA at the rate of 25 per cent of the basic pay and other allowances. In a statement issued here on Thursday, Dr Naresh Raj, President of the association said government employees were getting NPA for the past six months, but the board management had not released it despite repeated reminders.

Eye operation camp: The local Lions Club Citizen organised a free eye operation camp at Sauja village on Thursday. Medicines free of cost were given to patients.

Elected: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Punjab Police Association here: Patron — Mr Harinder Singh Chahal; President — Mr Ajaib Singh Kalika; Vice-President — Mr Dharam Singh; General Secretary — Mr Pritpal Singh Virk; Treasurer — Mr Gurnam Singh Mehra.

Seminar: Government Ripuda-man College, Nabha will organise a UGC sponsored seminar on human rights on the college premises on Saturday, according to a press note issued here on Thursday.

Federation: The following have been elected office-bearers of the PSEB Employees Federation( Class IV) here: President — Mr Gurnam Singh; Senior Vice-President — Mr Prithi Singh; General Secretary — Mr Balwinder Singh; and Treasurer — Mr Hirdya Narayan.

Protest rally: The Rajindra Hospital Class IV Karamchari Union organised a protest rally here on Thursday to press the management for the acceptance of its demands. It threatened to start an agitation if the demands were not accepted.

Sabha: The following have been elected office-bearers of the local Garhwal Sabha: President — Mr Prem Singh; Senior Vice-President — Mr Jot Singh; General Secretary — Mr Bhagwati Parshad; and Treasurer — Mr Panna Lal.

PHAGWARA
Two killed:
Gulzar Singh (60) died on the G.T. Road near Khajurla, 10 km from here, on Thursday when his moped was hit by a Tata Sierra. In another mishap, Gurmit Singh (50) was killed when his motor cycle was hit by a four-wheeler near Mehtan village.

SIRSA
Pending bills:
The Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam here has announced a relief for the pending bills in urban and rural areas of the district. A spokesman of the nigam said here on Thursday that the payment of these bills amounting to Rs 500 in rural areas and more than Rs 5000 in urban areas, would be accepted up to February 28 without surcharge and additional interest.

Principal sought:
Mr Paramjit Singh, a former sarpanch of Rasulpur village, has sought the appointment of a regular principal at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Kadgill. He said the ITI had been running without a principal since the institute started.

Dharna: Patwaris here organised a dharna at the tehsil complex on Thursday to press their demand. They threatened to launch a statewide stir in case the government failed to accept their demand till February 25.top

Blood donated: Sixty persons donated blood at a camp organised by the local Lions Club (Central) in association with the Bhojia Charitable Trust for Science Research and Social Welfare and Vikram Cements at Manimajra on Thursday. The camp was inaugurated by Mr Pawan Kumar Bansal, a former MP.

Procession: The Hindu Parv Sabha will take out a procession on Saturday as a part of Shivratri celebration. The procession will start from Satsang Bhavan, Sector 26. Justice V K Khanna, Chairperson of the Punjab Human Rights Commission, will be the guest of honour at a function organised in connection with the festival at the zonal headquarters of the Brahma Kumaris in Sector 33 on February 14.

Condemned: The local unit of the Samata Party on Friday condemned the murder of 12 Dalits in Jahanabad's Narayanpur village by activists of the Ranvir Sena within a fortnight of a similar attack in Shankar Bigha in the same district. Mr Ranjit Singh Dhaliwal, President of the unit, demanded strict action against the Ranvir Sena and dismissal of the Rabri Devi Government.

PANCHKULA
Deplored: While condemning the recent killings of members of the Scheduled Caste in Bihar, the Scheduled Caste Morcha of the BJP has deplored the rise of feudalism in the state. The General Secretary of the morcha, Mr R.L. Kataria, alleged that the incidents at Khejan, Narayanpur, Shankarbigh and Lakshanpur Bathe reflect the patronage being extended to the criminals by the Rabri government.top

Lions club:
The local Lions Club and Mission Hospital organised a five-day free eye operation camp at Mahabir Dal Hospital which concluded here on Thursday. About 250 patients were treated and 18 cataract operations performed.

GURGAON
Transfer sought:
The local Rehri Union on Thursday organised a rally to seek the transfer of the Executive Officer, Municipal Corporation, here. The president of the union threatened to sit on fast in front of the Municipal Corporation if the demand was not met.

BILASPUR
Budget for roads:
The Himachal Pradesh Government has allocated nearly 83 per cent of the budget for the construction of roads during the current financial year. An additional Rs 56 crore would be spent on the construction of 10 vital roads and 12 bridges with financial help from NABARD.

Rally:
Mr Sukh Ram, HVC leader, will address a public rally on Saturday at Basal village, 5 km from here. This was stated by Mr Kushal Singh Rainy, District General Secretary of the HVC.
