BATHINDA
Dharna: Members of the Punjab and Chandigarh Teachers' Union, staged a dharna in their respective colleges and observed a strike for two periods in protest against the non-implementation of revised UGC pay-scales. Mr Y. R. Handa, president of the union, said the union had also submitted a memorandum of the Chief Minister, punjab through the Deputy Commissioner, and urged him to implement the revised UGC scales and already accepted demands regarding pension and gratuity.

LUDHIANA
Six arrested: The police has arrested six persons for their alleged involvement in various crimes in Division No. 6 and recovered a truck, one Maruti car, two pistols and three daggers from them.

MOGA
High prices
: In view of the high prices of wheat and wheat flour in the town during the past few weeks, residents of the town urged the authorities on Saturday to make immediate arrangements for the supply of both the commodities through the government fair price shops.

PATIALA

SAS NAGAR
Eye camp: A five-day eye camp organised by the Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib Eye Hospital concluded at Sohana here on Saturday. Dr Mukesh Aggarwal, a Florida-based practitioner, participated in the camp. Patients from labour colonies of SAS Nagar and adjoining areas benefitted on the occasion.

Athletic meet: An athletic meet for children will be organised in Phase 3B-2 (near Hanuman Mandir) on Sunday, a press release of the Lions Club (SAS Nagar) said here today.

Welcomed: The Punjab Police Service Association in a press release here today has welcomed the appointment of Mr Sarbjit Singh as the DGP of Punjab police. Elections of the association will be held at Ludhiana on March 20.top

AMBALA
Three killed:
Three persons were killed in two road accidents on Friday. Darshana Rani and Sunny were killed when the rickshaw in which they were travelling was hit by a four-wheeler near Hari Palace in the city. A case has been registered. In another accidents, Mr Kuldeep Singh of Zafarpur village was killed when the three-wheeler in which he has travelling was hit by a Tata Sumo near Duliani village.

Blood donation
: As many as 750 units of blood were collected at a three-day blood donation camp organised by the Jan Kalyan Samiti here. Mr Surender Singh, MP, honoured the blood donors and urged the people to cooperate in this good cause.

Foundation stone : The Public Health Minister, Mr Jagannath, has called upon the people to strive for the uplift of the poor and Dalits. He was addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone of Dr Ambedkar Chaupal at Kalanpur town, near here, on Friday. He announced a grant of Rs 31,000 for the construction of the chaupal and assured an adequate supply of potable water to the residents of the town.

Women awareness programme : Prof L N Dahiya, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Maharshi Dayanand University presided over the inter-college women awareness programme organised at the BPS College of Education , Khanpur Kalan, on Friday. He said women’s cells, which had been created in every college, should adopt villages, to educate rural women on the issues of health, ills of overpopulation, economic welfare, anti-dowry drives and their legal rights.

Protest
: Employees of the Municipal Council under the chairmanship of Mr Shiv Parshad, president Haryana Nagarpalika Karmachari Sangh (Sirsa branch), held a protest here on Thursday and raised slogans against the government. Mr Prashad alleged that the state government was taking no decision on the long-pending demands of the employees and threatened to launch a statewide stir if their demands were not accepted soon.

SONEPAT
Farmers’ protest
: Representatives of various farmers’ organisations held a joint meeting here on Friday to protest against the erratic and inadequate supply of canal water in the villages falling under the Sonepat Water Service Division. It urged the state government to order a probe into the matter and punish the officials found responsible for it.

Ration cards: The district unit of the CITU protested on Friday, for not issuing of ration cards to the workers employed in various industrial units in the city and the GT Road belt. It alleged that the authorities had failed to redress their grievance in spite of repeated complaints.top

HAMIRPUR
Development works:
Hamirpur district and Bamsan mandal units of the BJP have objected to the statements of district Congress leaders that the development works in the district were motivated by political considerations. Mr Anand Swaroop, the district BJP President, and Mr Pyare Lal Sharma, the President, Bamsan mandal, in two separate statements, issued on Saturday, claimed that equal and balanced development was going on in the district and in other parts of the state.

SOLAN
Strike: Forestry students of the Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, at Nauni, near here, went on an indefinite strike to press their demands, which included provision of jobs for forestry graduates and an immediate review of the forestry related education policy and renaming of B.Sc. forestry degree as B.Tech. (Forestry).
