23 hurt in US attack BAGHDAD, Feb 27 (Reuters) — Iraq said today that 23 persons were injured when western planes attacked targets in a no-fly zone in southern Iraq. "Their crows have flown above the provinces of Meisan, Basra, Dhiqar, Najaf and Muthana and rocketed civilian and military sites in Meisan (Amarah), injuring 23 citizens", an Iraqi military spokesman said. "Our ground defences confronted the hostile formations and forced them to flee and return to the bases in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia", the spokesman said. US-Lankan pact COLOMBO, Feb 27 (AFP) — The US and Sri Lankan Governments have initialled a new extradition treaty to replace a 68-year-old pact signed during colonial times, the Foreign Ministry said today. It said in a statement that the treaty, initialled in Washington three days earlier, replaced a 1931 extradition agreement between the USA and Britain which ruled Sri Lanka till 1948. "The successful negotiation of this treaty is seen as another landmark in the strong bilateral relations between the two countries", the ministry said.

Bill on immigrants WASHINGTON, Feb 27 (PTI) — A legislation has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives for permitting entry into the country of spouses and children of permanent resident aliens residing and working here. "The Bill would simply make it easier for family members (of green card-holders) to come to the USA on a temporary basis. Its goal is to alleviate human hardship of prolonged family separation", said Democrat Congressman Frank Pallone who moved the legislation.
