Deaf and dumb school: The construction of a deaf and dumb school here will start on January 10 after performing "bhoomi poojan". Mr S.R. Ladhar, said here on Saturday that Rs 40 lakh had been assigned for the project, which included a residential school and a hospital.
Office-bearers: The following have been elected office-bearers of the local unit of the Indian Medical Association: President — Dr Rajesh Maheshwari; Vice-Presidents — Dr Ajay Garg, Dr Jyot Ram Jain and Dr Gagan Lata; Secretary — Dr Kailash Goyal and Treasurer — Dr Satish Verma.

Open darbar: An open darbar was held on Friday at Ferozeshah village. The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Gurdev Singh Sidhu, presided and redressed grievances.

JALANDHAR

Demands: A meeting of the Government School Lecturers Union, Punjab (Jalandhar unit) was held at Desh Bhagat Yadgar hall here on Saturday. Mr Jiwan Parkash Sharma, President of the association, said the union had urged the Punjab Government to implement its non-financial demands, which included the promotion to the posts of principals.

MALERKOTLA

Post office sought: Industrialists on the Malerkotla-Ludhiana highway have sought a sub post office near Bhogiwal village. Mr A.S. Sahni, President, Tirupati Chemicals Limited, said they were ready to provide the building, furniture and other facilities. He added that the workers had to go to Malerkotla to post letters.
Camp: A blood donation camp will be organised by the Lions Club at Ahmedgarh, 20 km from here, on January 17.
Scholarship: The Hem Raj charitable Trust here have announced scholarships for students of Class V, VIII, X and XII who will top in the annual examinations this year. Mr Amarjit Bansal, a member of the trust, said the scholarship will be of Rs 600, Rs 900 and Rs 1200, respectively.
School timings: The district administration by an order has changed the timings of all government and private schools in the district due to heavy fog and cold wave. Mr Anirudh Tiwari, Deputy Commissioner, Sangrur, said all schools in the district would function from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. from January 4 to 20.

MOGA

Crop damaged: Rabi crop sown in several hundred acres in villages of the district has been damaged following the fortnightly foggy weather, according to Mr Balwant Singh Brar, Chairman, Baghapurana Action Committee here on Saturday.
Akhand path: The Baghapurana police on Saturday performed an akhand path on the premises of the police station. A langar was also organised.

PATIALA

Camp held: A blood donation camp was organised by the local Lions Club (Central), State Bank of India (NOC branch) and volunteers of B.N. Khalsa Senior Secondary School here on Friday on the school premises.
Yoga camp: A 15-day yoga camp will be organised by the Youth Welfare Department, Punjabi University, at State College from January 9 to 23. Mr Muni Lal Kumra will be the instructor. This was stated in a press note issued here on Saturday.
Training programme: A one-month reorientation training programme in Dravyaguna Department was started at Government Ayurvedic College here on Friday. The main purpose of this training is to provide the latest knowledge of the research conducted in herbal plants.

Arrested: The Sadar police here has arrested Kuldip Singh of Bhullarai village for carrying a country-made pistol and two cartridges in a scooter which was also stolen. He was also carrying liquor bottles which he had allegedly stolen.top

HISAR

Substation: Mr Bansi Lal, Chief Minister, has inaugurated the second phase of 132 KV substation at Tohana, 70 km from here. The phase of the substation has been constructed by the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam at an estimated cost of Rs 3.58 crore.

ROHTAK

Secretariat: A secretariat building would soon be constructed in the town at an estimated cost of Rs 2.5 crore, according to Mr Siri Kishan Das, Town and Country Planning Minister, here on Saturday. He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the district library building and laying the foundation stone of an essential commodities centre.

SONEPAT

Salaries: Teachers of Government High School, Anwali village in the Gohana subdivision, have declined to accept their salaries for December in protest against the cut in their salaries ordered by Mr S.C. Goel, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Gohana. According to a report reaching here, the SDM, had conducted a raid on December 23 and found the headmaster and teachers absent from duty.top

KANGRA

Died: Nirmala Devi (28) of Tangroti village succumbed to her injuries on Saturday at a hospital in Dharamsala. According to the police, she was injured when the stove on which she was preparing food burst. Her husband, Vichitter Singh (34), was also injured. In another case, Sushma (22) of Galian village allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison on Friday. A case has been registered.

KULU

Loss: Mr Maheshwar Singh, BJP MP from Mandi parliamentary constituency, has said the district has suffered a loss of Rs 133 crore because of natural calamities . He was addressing a gathering at Bandrol village, 7 km from here, on Friday.top
