Laloo dissolves RJD youth wing
PATNA, Jan 22 (UNI) — Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Laloo Prasad Yadav today dissolved the party’s youth wing, saying that he had received several complaints regarding the illegal activities of the office-bearers of the organisation. Addressing party workers after Chief Minister Rabri Devi inaugurated the new state party headquarters here, Mr Yadav clarified that indiscipline in the party would not be tolerated at any cost and said some workers had damaged the image of the party. Mr Yadav also urged the Chief Minister to allot accommodation to all major political parties to open their offices in the state at subsidised rates.

Sonia’s ‘battle’
PUNE, Jan 22 (PTI) — Congress President Sonia Gandhi today invoked Hindu scriptures to interpret the essence of Indian thought and sought support of the Press in the ‘battle’ against the Sangh Parivar. She was speaking here at the inauguration of the Lokmanya Tilak Museum at a function organised by Kesari-Mahratta Trust, which runs the century-old Kesari newspaper founded by Tilak.

Byelections on Feb 19
NEW DELHI, Jan 22 (UNI) — Byelections to fill three vacancies in the Legislative Councils of Bihar, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh will be held on February 19. The Election Commission said this here today that the notification for the byelections would be issued on February 2. The last date for filing nominations is February 9 and scrutiny will be taken up the next date. February 12 is the last date for withdrawal of candidature.

Expelled from LD
NEW DELHI, Jan 22 (PTI) — The National General Secretary of the Lok Dal’s women’s wing, Ms Saroj Malik, was today expelled from the party for anti-party activities. She was expelled for six years by party president Ajit Singh on the basis of a report submitted by women’s wing national president Shama Kushwah, party spokesman Dhirendra Pratap said here.
