MOGA
Martyrs:
All those who have laid down their lives for the country will be honoured posthumously by the State Government. This was stated by the Punjab Education Minister, Mr Tota Singh, while laying the foundation stone of a stadium at Lopo village in the district in the memory of Kewal Singh Dhaliwal who was killed in an accident last year. The minister distributed cheques for Rs 50,000 each to 20 villages in the district for the construction of link roads and other development work.
Poppy husk seized:
The district police has recovered poppy husk valued at Rs 23 lakh from two smugglers, Labh Singh and Dalip Singh, on a tip-off. Mr Sharad S. Chauhan, SSP, said here on Monday that the police had also seized 35 bags of poppy husk valued at over Rs 5 lakh from a village under the Badhanikalan police station. The accused had concealed it in a specially made bunker in his house.

NAWANSHAHR
Rally:
More than 200 ex-servicemen participated in a state-level rally held at Punjab Mata Vidhyawati Bhavan here on Sunday under the aegis of the ex-servicemen cell (PPCC). Ms Santosh Chaudhary, a former Congress MP, presided over the rally. The ex-servicemen demanded Rs 10 lakh each as ex-gratia payment for the families of the Kargil martyrs, implementation of one-rank one-pension scheme and pension and other benefits for the war widows.
Acupuncture camp:
More than 500 patients suffering from various diseases were treated at an eight-day acupuncture camp which concluded on Sunday at Har Bhagat Dwar Beerowal, about 12 km from here. The camp was organised in collaboration with Dr Kotnis Charitable Hospital, Salem Tabri, Ludhiana. Prof Jiwan Tiwari, President, Indo-China Friendship Association, presided over the concluding function.
Function:
The local truck operators organised a religious function at Gurdwara Tahli Sahib here on Sunday which was attended among others by Baba Labh Singh (Anandpur Sahib), Baba Budh Singh (Dhahan Kaleran) and Chaudhury Santokh Singh, former minister. Donations for the langar being run at the PGI, Chandigarh, by Baba Labh Singh and the hospital being run at Dhahan Kaleran by Baba Budh Singh were also collected on the occasion.

PHAGWARA
Mishap:
An auto-parts dealer, Rajinder Kumar Ahuja (34) was killed two others injured in a collision between a car and a truck on the GT Road near Chachoki village on Monday.

SAMRALA
Appointed:
Mr Jaswant Singh Kaler has been appointed Convener of the the Document Writers Association here on Monday. The association stated this in a press note.
Nominated:
A senior Akali leader here, Mr Bhawanjeet Singh, has been appointed Vice-President of the district Akali Dal (Dihati) according to Jathedar Daya Singh, President of the Ludhiana unit of the SAD(B).
Committee members:
Mr Parminder Singh Dhillon, a social worker here, has been nominated member of the Telephone Advisory Committee for Ludhiana district, according to a letter of the Minister of State for Communication.
Electricity meter:
Mr H.S.Saluja, Additional Superintending Engineer, PSEB, Ghulal, Dhindsa village, has urged the consumers to ensure that the seals of their meters were intact, and if not they should report to the SDO concerned. He added that defaulters would be fined.

SANGRUR
Sangat darshan:
A sangat darshan programme was held here on Monday presided over by Mr Anirudh Tewari, Deputy Commissioner. Of the 36 complaints received on the occasion, 18 were settled on the spot. Besides, 17 pending complaints of a previous such programme were also settled.

The HMT Karmik Sangh (R and R) started a hunger strike on Tuesday in support of its demands. it urged the Central Government to initiate appropriate action against the officials responsible for causing loss to the unit.

BHIWANI
Arrested:
The police here claims to have arrested all four accused involved in looting Rs 3 lakh after killing an oil tanker driver, Dharambir, of Haryana Oil Mills, Rohtak, on June 10. This was disclosed here by Mr S.S. Deswal, SP, on Monday.

KURUKSHETRA
Dental camp:
The local Lions Club, in collaboration with DAV Dental college and Hospital, Yamunanagar, organised a free dental check-up and minor surgery camp at Ankur Nursing Home here on Sunday. According to Lion Dr V.K. Gupta, Chairman of the project, 275 patients were treated at the camp by a team of doctors led by Dr I.K. Pandit.

KAITHAL
Poppy husk seized:
The police here seized poppy husk valued at Rs 10 lakh from the Malikpur area bordering Punjab in Guhla subdivision on Sunday and arrested two persons in this connection. According to a press note, the police had set up a naka near Malikpur village on a tip-off. Around 2 a.m a tractor trolley was noticed coming from the Ratta Khera village side. It was being followed by a scooterist. On search, the police found 44 bags of poppy husk. The tractor driver, Sukh Ram, and the scooterist, Balkar Singh, both residents of Ratta Khera village, were arrested under the NDPS Act.
Case registered:
The police here has registered a case under Sections 406 and 420 of the IPC against the Chairman-cum-Managing director of a Delhi-based finance company on the orders of a local court. The case was registered following a complaint by a depositor that he had deposited Rs 20,000 with the company on the assurance that this amount would double in three years. But the company closed its branch office situated at Park Road and failed to return the money.

SIRSA
One dead:
Ram Chander (23) of Jaiskotla village, Rajasthan died on the spot while another was injured in a road accident on Sunday when his scooter collided with a vehicle near Kagdana village. He was accompanied by a relative, Shyam Sunder, who got injured.
Condolence meetings:
Tributes were paid to Army personnel who had sacrificed their lives in Kargil at a condolence meeting held here on Sunday. A similar meeting was also organised by Setu, a social organisation here.
Murder:
Mohinder Singh of Dabwali village in the district was arrested by the local police on Sunday on the charge of murder of his brother, Darshan Singh, on Tuesday last. A case under Sections 302,307,323, 324 and 34, IPC, has been registered. A dispute over some agriculture land was stated to be the cause of the murder.
Dowry case: Babu Lal of Gobindgarh village, his father, Gurdev Singh, alias Mitthu, and brother, Balvinder Singh, alias Binder, were arrested by the Sadar police, Mandi Dabwali, in a dowry death case on Monday. While giving this information, Mr B.S. Sandhu, Senior Superintendent of Police, said here on Tuesday that a criminal case under Section 304/34, IPC, was registered against the accused.
Raids conducted:
A police party of the Crime Investigation Agency headed by Mr Janardhan Sharma, Assistant Sub-Inspector, conducted a raid and recovered a working still, 200 kg of lahan and 10 bottles of illicit liquor from Jaswant Singh of Khaja Khera village on Monday. The police also recovered a working still, 200 kg of lahan and eight bottles of illicit liquor from Joginder Singh of the same village on Monday. Criminal cases under Section 61/1/14 of the Excise Act against the arrested persons have been registered.

SONEPAT
Killed:
Shobha Ram, a driver with the Haryana Roadways, Faridabad depot, was killed on the spot and at least 10 others were injured when the bus he was driving went out of control and rammed into a stationary truck on the G.T. Road near Rai police station, about 15 km from here, on Monday. The police is investigating into the case.
Annual conference:
A two-day annual conference of the Forest Department Mazdoor Union, affiliated to CITU, will commence from June 26 at Kaithal. Mr S.N. Solanki, President of the State Committee of CITU will inaugurate it.
Inaugurated:
Mr Rajiv Jain, Political Press Adviser to the Chief Minister, Mr Bansi Lal, inaugurated a tubewell installed at a cost of Rs 2 lakh by the Public Health Department at Tara Nagar (Ward No. 18) here on Tuesday.
Suicide:
Amarjit (34) was found hanging in his house at Kiroli village, about 12 km from here on Monday. The police believed it to be a case of suicide. In another incident, the Railway police recovered the body of an unidentified man (45) lying on the railway track between here and Sandal Kalan railway station on Monday. It could be a case of suicide, according to the police.
Blockade:
Traffic on the Sonepat-Bahalgarh road was held up by an irate mob on Monday who kept the body of Om Parkash, a resident of Khanna Colony, in the middle of the road. The body was recovered from the water tank of a cold storage near the subzi mandi on Sunday. The people were protesting against the refusal of the local Civil Hospital doctors to conduct a postmortem on the decomposed body. Instead, the doctors referred it to the medical college hospital at Rohtak.

DHARAMSALA
Suicide:
A 34-year-old Head Constable, Yash Dutt, committed suicide here on Sunday. According to the SSP, Mr K.C Sadyal, the Head Constable, who was posted in the IInd Battalion at Sukoh, had been missing from his home, since Sunday afternoon. Later, his body was found near the staff quarters on Monday. He belonged to Chamba.
