AMRITSAR
Accident:
A private bus knocked down a cyclist Mr Ram Nath Yadav on the Ajnala road near Radar station. He died on the spot while his wife Lakshmi Devi was admitted to the hospital. The Civil lines police has impounded the bus. The driver and conductor were absconding. According to the ASP, Ms Vibhuraj, an FIR has been registered against the accused.

FEROZEPORE
Relay fast:
A first batch of 25 members of the district unit of Mulazam Sangharsh Committee, Punjab sat on fast outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner, here on Monday. Mr Kulwant Singh Lehri Convener of the committee demanded among other things, promotional scale after four, nine and 14 years and of the service and regularisation of Ad hoc worker's and daily wage workers.

HOSHIARPUR
Flood control:
Measures have been taken to control the floods during the monsoon in the district. This was disclosed by Mr Iqbal Singh Sidhu, Deputy Commissioner, here on Monday. He said control rooms at district and sub-divisional levels would start functioning from July. The SDMs have been directed to identify safer places in their respective areas to shift the populace. Civil Surgeons and the Deputy Director Animal Husbandry Department have been directed to procure medicines and fodder for supplying them to the affected areas during floods. Similarly the Civil Supplies Department has also been instructed to stock essential commodities.

Agitation: Resentment prevails among the employees of Kandi Canal against the District Treasury Authorities for not releasing the Letter of Credit due to which they have not received their salaries since October 1998. More than 250 employees were sitting idle for about two years since the completion of first phase of Kandi Canal.

LUDHIANA
One arrested:
The police has arrested Kishore for allegedly sending persons abroad, illegally. In an FIR, Nirmal Singh one of the victim said the accused had taken Rs 90,000 from him to get him settled in Malaysia. He was , however, arrested on Malaysian border and sent to a jail there, for six months.

PHAGWARA
Arrested:
A police naka at Bein bridge at Duggan village nabbed Dara Singh and recovered from his possession a 12 bore pistol and two cartridges. He was booked under Sections 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act. He belongs to Barn village under the Sadar police station.

ROPAR
Thieves arrested:
Three burglars, Avtar Kumar, Joginder Pal and Vimal Kumar, were arrested on Monday by the Anandpur Sahib police while they were trying to decamp with valuable articles from the house of Mr Paramjit Singh. Mr Jaskaran Singh, SSP, seized valuables worth Rs 1.05 lakh from them.

Blood donation: The Friends Blood Donors and Welfare Association, in association with the Thalassaemic Children Welfare Association and the Chandigarh Blood Donors Council, will organise a mass blood donation camp at Ramgarhia Bhavan, Sector 27, on Wednesday from 9 am to 1 pm. Mr Satwant Gill will inaugurate the camp and Brigadier Kuldip Singh Chandpuri will give away prizes to the blood donors.

Demands submitted: The PGI Employees Co-ordination Committee met the Union Health minister on Tuesday and submitted a charter of demands to him. The PGI Safai Karamchari Union also submitted its demands to the minister.

Visited:
The local MLA, Mr Chander Mohan, visited Western Command Hospital on Tuesday to enquire about the well-being of the soldiers injured while fighting intruders in the Kargil sector.

Appointed: Mr Parmod Kumar of Him Shikha colony in Pinjore has been appointed member of the Media Committee of the District Congress (I) Committee.top

KAITHAL
Murdered:
Raj Kumar of Bichiyan village falling under Guhla Police station was allegedly murdered by two persons of the same village on Sunday. Om Pati, mother of the victim lodged a complaint with the police that Prem and Ram Kumar had murdered her son and made it appear to be a case of suicide. The accused had been nursing a grudge against Raj Kumar since his acquittal from the murder charge of their father.

Presided:
The Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Mr Prem Kumar Dhumal on Monday presided over the annual prize distribution function of Swami Vivekananda Middle Public School Adhawani, and said man-made barriers of caste and creed must end.

KULU
Unidentified:
The body of the man who committed suicide at the Ani police station on Thursday has as yet not been identified. The post-mortem report was also not submitted till Sunday by the Zonal hospital, Mandi. Mr Zahur H. Zaidi, SP, said the matter had been reported to the Human Rights Commission, and that the action would be taken against the accused.

NAHAN
Demand:
The multi purpose health services Karamchari Mahasangh, Sirmour, staged a dharna in front of the Chief Medical Officer’s office on Monday in support of their demands. Employees raised slogans against the state government and demanded an immediate implementation of their 12-point charter of demands. Mr N.R.Thakur, state president of the sangh, has threatened to intensify the agitation in case the demands were not accepted.

SHIMLA
Yajna:
The local Kashmiri Hindus organised a yajna on Monday to mark "Jeth Ashtami" and pay homage to the brave soldiers who died fighting Pakistan-backed intruders in Kargil. The members of the community expressed their deep condolences to the bereaved families of martyrs on the occasion. Participants also sought the blessing of "Maharagnaya" for the community scattered all over the country due to militancy in Kashmir for the last one decade.
