New President:
Mr Sampuran Sharma was inaugurated as the new President of Rotary Club here at an impressive ceremony organised at S.D. College auditorium on Sunday evening. The Minister of State for Irrigation Mr Sikander Singh Maluka, lauded remarkable role played by the club in social and community welfare projects here and offered monetary aid worth Rs 50,000 to it.

FAZILKA
Child electrocuted:
Manjit Singh a two year old child of Nai Abadi, was electrocuted when he touched a live electric wire of a cooler in his house on Tuesday. He died on the spot.

FEROZEPORE
Two drowned:
Two persons were drowned in a canal, near Baroke village, here on Monday. They have been identified as Chander Mohan, alias Raju, and Sunny, alias Vishal, local residents. The SDM, Mr D P S Kharbanda, visited the site.

JALANDHAR
Cheques presented:
Mrs Madhu Davar, wife of Lt-Gen K. Davar, GOC, Vajra Corps, and President, Army Wives Welfare Association, Jalandhar, presented a cheque of Rs 5,000 as monetary help to the widows of Mr Mool Chand and Mr Raj Kumar, employees of the EME unit, somewhere in the western sector, on Monday.

Elected: Mr Ashwani Kumar Sharma the Principal of Doaba College here, has been unanimously re-elected President of the Principals Association of Colleges, affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University.

Resentment: Upset over the improper implementation of the revised pay scales and allowances, more than 5000 teachers working 160 non-government colleges in Punjab and Chandigarh will accept their salary under protest. Stating this here on Tuesday, the leader of the Punjab and Chandigarh Colleges Teachers' Union (PCCTU) strongly denounced the exclusion of enhanced house rent allowance and medical allowance from the salary bills of the teachers by some colleges.

Pensioners association: All India Central Government Pensioners Association of north India has been invited by the government to discuss their demands, which are based on the recommendations of the 5th Pay Commission. A communication to this effect was received by the General Secretary of the Association Mr V.S. Jolly, from Mr S. Lakshmi Narayanan, Additional Secretary, Department of Pensions and Pensioners Welfare Central Government, for a meeting on July 9, at Delhi.

Seminar:
Mr Baldev Singh, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Service Authority, has said a seminar on legal awareness would be held here on July 10. He said lawyers, municipal commissioners, panches, sarpanches, and social workers would expected to participate in the seminar.

MOGA
Plea:
Resentment prevails among residents of Kaleke village, under the Baghapurana police station in this district, over the failure of the government to complete the road connecting Kaleke village with Baghapurana. The residents said despite the assurance given by Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal nothing had been done in this regard.

PATIALA
Salary donated:
Staff of Central Jail, Patiala, have donated their one-day salary towards the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, according to Mr G.S. Sidhu, Superintendent, Jail.

PHILLAUR
Road accident:
Satish Kumar Sethi and his daughter Aarsi were killed on spot while his wife Anu and another daughter Samridhi, sustained serious injuries when their car was hit by a tanker at G.T. road, here, on Tuesday. The police has arrested the driver and impounded the vehicle.

PHAGWARA
Two dead:
Satnam Singh of Noopu Lubana village and Krishan Ram of Salempur village died on spot when a scooter on which they were travelling collided with a truck at the G.T. Road near Hambowal bridge, on Monday.

Mobile laboratories: Under a new scheme mobile food laboratories will soon be set up in the state to keep a check on the sale of adulterated goods, according to Dr G.S. Preet, Director, Health and Family Welfare, Punjab. Giving details, he said here on Tuesday that a well equipped lab with staff including a Magistrate, would get samples and impose fines on those selling adulterated goods.

Congress decision: Mr Pardeep Chaudhary, General Secretary of the Indian National Lok Dal, has described the decision of the congress to support the Bansi Lal government in Haryana as a political blunder.

Donated: Mr S.S. Kakkar, a retired PCS officer, has donated one month's pension for the welfare of soldiers fighting intruders in Kargil. The cheque has been sent to President, Army Wives Welfare Association.top

HISAR
Free camps:
The Khetarpaul Charitable Trust has so far organised 12 camps and examined as many as 1253 persons suffering from diabetes, according to Dr N K Khetarpaul. He said the trust decided to organise free diabetes detection camps every month.

SONEPAT
Statue:
The Youth Development Council has decided to install a statue of the veteran freedom fighter Pandit Siri Ram Sharma, at the chowk of Murthal Adda, here, according to Mr Pardeep Bhardwaj, President of the council. He said the Municipal Council had already granted sanction and it would be inaugurated on October 1.

Dissolution: The Haryana Pradesh Janata Dal President, Mr Ved Parkash Vidrohi, on Tuesday, demanded dissolution of the state Vidhan Sabha and fresh Assembly elections, in the state. In a signed press statement issued here, he said the government was unstable even after getting the support of the Congress.

Scandal: The officials of the Food and Civil Supplies Department, here have unearthed a scandal relating to the underweight of wheat bags procured and stored in various godowns by the department at Ganaur. It is alleged that some officials of the department had been pilfering from the wheat bags before the delivery was made to the FCI. In order to make up the weight, these officials used to sprinkle water on the bags, thereby cheating the FCI as well as the government.

Encroachment: Residents including sarpanches, panches and the members of the block samitis on Monday sent a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Mr Bansi Lal, and urged him to order removal of the encroachments, put up by dhabas, restaurants and hotels owners along the National Highway No 1.

Honoured: Harish Chander 'Naaz', an Urdu poet of Haryana, was honoured at a function organised by the Adhi Sangam, Haryana, held here on Monday. A kavi sammelan was also held.

YAMUNANAGAR
Medical camp:
A free health care camp was organised on Sunday at village Khadri, here by Shri Dinanath Kohli Charitable Trust, Jagadhri and nearly 350 patients were examined on the occasion. Dr Pardeep Kohli, Chairman, of the trust, said free blood and urine tests were also conducted, at the camp.

DHARAMSALA
Illegal deodar felling:
The Chairman of the Save Himachal Committee, Mr Kulbhushan Upmanyu, has expressed concern over the illegal removal of deodar stumps, in the Karsog area, leading to serious environmental degradation. Talking to mediapersons here on Monday, he said the deodar stumps were being removed with the help of explosives for extracting oil from them.

HAMIRPUR
Cases settled:
The "administration at your doorstep" programme was organised at Mundkhar village of the district on Monday. As many as 142 of the 227 cases were settled on the spot. Most of the cases were related to the Revenue Department. The Department of Forest distributed 1,500 saplings among the farmers and the Department of Ayurveda and the Department of Health examined, 656 patients. Villagers donated Rs 25,605 towards the Chief Minister's Sainik Welfare Fund.

SHIMLA

Dental camps: The Preventive and Community Dentistry Department of Government Dental College and Hospital has organised a three-day free dental health treatment camp at Tauni Devi , Hamirpur. As many as 1,000 patients were examined and educated 6,500 children of 20 schools of Hamirpur district.
