FATEHGARH SAHIB
Camp:
The Lions Club, Mandi Gobindgarh, organised a free ENT diseases check-up camp at Parbhat Puri Charitable Hospital on Sunday. A team of doctors lead by Mr S.K Verma of Patiala examined more than 200 patients. The club also organised a blood donation camp in which more than 100 units of blood were collected.

HOSHIARPUR
Function:
A function was organised here on Saturday to honour mentally disabled children of Asha Kiran School, which is being run by the Asha Deep Welfare Society. Mr R.P Mittal, SSP, was the chief guest. He appreciated the services of the society and Ms Reena Sharma , Principal of the school, for rehabilitating mentally disabled children.

MOGA
Sammelan:
A 10-day long annual sarv dharam sammelan organised by Swami Vedantanand Ji, founder of Geeta Bhavan, and Pawan Dham, Haridwar, concluded here on Sunday with the hoisting of its religious flag on the premises of the bhavan.

NAWANSHAHR
Workshop:
A three-day workshop organised by the Punjab State Council of Science and Technology in collaboration with Punjab Sugarfed at the local Doaba Cooperative Sugar Mill concluded on Saturday. The workshop was inaugurated by the Additional Director, Sugarfed, Mr A.S Pannu. It was attended by staff of the cooperative sugar mills of the state. Mr Vijay Gopal, Director, Environment, delivered a lecture during the workshop.
Elected:
Mr Rakesh Nayyar has been elected secretary of the local unit of the CPM here on Friday at a meeting held under the presidentship of Mr Parshottam Lal.

The following have been elected office-bearers of the district unit of the Homoeopathic Practitioners Association: President — Dr M.M Parashar; Vice-Presidents — Dr Sukhsagar Singh, Dr Som Datt Sharma and Dr Ajaib Singh; General Secretary — Dr D.K. ROPAR
Medical camp:
The local Youth Aggarwal Sabha organised a free medical check-up camp at DAV Public Senior Secondary School here on Sunday. The camp was inaugurated by Mr Madan Mohan Mittal, Punjab Food and Supplies Minister. As many as 220 patients were examined.

Haryana briefs
YAMUNANAGAR
Camp:
The local Lions Club in collaboration with Kalyanam Karoti, Lucknow, organised a camp for physically handicapped persons at Jagadhri, on Sunday. Mr Suraj Bhan, Governor, Uttar Pradesh, was present on the occasion. The club distributed 100 tricycles, 200 pairs of crutches and six wheelchairs among the needy persons. Mr Subhash Chaudhary, Minister of State Environment and Wild Life Preservation, Haryana, announced a grant of Rs 31,000 to the club.

Himachal Briefs
JAWALAMUKHI
Education policy:
The Himachal Government has decided to provide better educational facilities to women. This was stated by the Chief Minister, Mr Prem Kumar Dhumal, while addressing a gathering at Dhaliara, 15 km from here on Sunday. He said his government was committed to the betterment of the educational institutions and would provide the required infrastructure. He said Himachal had become the second most literate state in the country with a literacy rate of 77 per cent.

NURPUR
Prize distribution:
Mr Rajan Sushant, the State Revenue Minister said the government would soon start post graduate classes in Government Degree College, Rehan. He was presiding over the annual prize distribution function of the college on Sunday. He announced a grant of Rs 15 lakh for the construction of the college building and Rs 51,000 for the cultural activities. Mr Rakesh Pathania, MLA and the Vice-Chairman of the State Tourism Development Corporation was the guest of honour.
Arrested:
The police on Sunday arrested Harjit Singh of Chhatrolli village, from Jassur under Sections 379 and 34, IPC, for allegedly stealing a bag from a van, containing cash and jewellery. A sum of Rs 19700 in cash and jewellery worth Rs 21,000 were recovered from his possession. Another accused is still at large.
