ABOHAR
Theft in bank:
A theft was reportedly committed at Abohar Cooperative Agriculture Development Bank opposite New Grain market here on Saturday night. Mr Narsi Ram , Branch Manager, had reportedly asked some employees to come to the bank office even when it was holiday on Sunday to expedite closing of the financial year. The employees found that the small entry gate of the bank was open and its lock broken open. On entry it was noted that the lock of the cashier's cabin was also opened and cash box was missing.

FATEHGARH SAHIB
Contractor's union:
The government octroi contractors at a meeting held here on Monday formed the Punjab Octroi Contractors Union. Mr Pardeep Malhotra of Sirhind was elected president of the union and Mr Gurmeet Singh of Ropar and Mr Ashok Kumar of Morinda , was elected secretary and cashier, respectively, of the union.

Cultural programme: The Punjabi University Old Students Union will organise Gurpreet Dhaliwal memorial cultural programme on March 17 at Mata Gujri College. Mr Paramraj Singh Dhaliwal, SSP, and president of the association, said here on Monday that the Finance Minister, Capt Kanwaljit Singh, will inaugurate the function and Mr Sewa Singh Sekhwan, Minister for Public Relations, will honour the guests and folk singers in the evening.

JALANDHAR
Annual flower show:
The cantonment board will organise an annual flower show and garden competition at Jawahar Garden, The Mall, on March 21. Lt-Gen Kamal Davar, General Officer Commanding, Vajra Corps, will be the chief guest on the occasion. The show will be open for all.

Raising day: Fifth battalion, the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles (Suraj Gorkha), will celebrate its 150th raising day on March 28 and 29 somewhere in the western sector. All serving and retired officers, JCO's and other ranks of the battalion will participate on this occasion.

NAWANSHAHR
Meeting:
The meeting of the local unit of the Punjab Pensioners Welfare Association was held under the presidentship of Mr Ajit Singh here on Sunday and criticised the Badal government for its indifferent attitude towards its demands. The association decided to participate in the state-level dharna to be held at Chandigarh on Wednesday.

PATIALA
Blood donation:
About 50 persons donated blood at a camp organised by the local Lions Club (Fort) on the occasion of a Leo conference held here on Sunday. Mr Narinder Singh, Public Health Minister, Punjab, inaugurated the camp.

SANGRUR
Traffic control measures:
In order to control traffic, the District Magistrate, Mr Anirudh Tewari, has banned the loading and unloading of heavy vehicles in the main bazaars of this town, including Sadar bazaar, Pharwahi bazaar and Handiya bazaar. The order shall remain in force till April 20.

AMBALA
Appointed:
Dr Viresh Shandiliya, Chief Editor of Jyotikan, a local weekly, has been appointed chairman of the Haryana unit of the World Human Rights Protection Council for the second term.

BHIWANI
Awareness programme:
The Nehru Yuva Kendra has organised a state-level health awareness programme at Chhappar village. The DCMO, Mr Subhash Chander, was the chief guest and Mr Narender Yadav, youth coordinator of the kendra, presided over the function. Mr Yadav said the programme was in operation in 50 villages.

Auction: A sum of Rs 28.67 crore has been earned through auction of liquor contracts this financial year, in the district according to Mr K.S.Yadav, Deputy Commissioner. He said in this year 68 shops would be opened.

FATEHABAD
Function:
The Deputy Commissioner, Mr V. Raja Shekhar, has called upon the girls not to stop studies after completing graduation. He was speaking on the occasion of the first annual function of the local Government College for Girls here on Saturday. Mr Shekhar said that women could play a useful role in eradicating backwardness from society. He called upon the college teachers to inculcate nationalism among students. The college principal, Mr K.L. Goyal, and Vice-Principal, Mr R.K. Sehgal, said the college which was started from the current session and was going to start some more classes from this session.

Water scheme: Under the desert development programme, aided by the Government of India, the Haryana Government has prepared a plan to revamp and improve the water supply in the villages of the state which falls near the Rajasthan border. This was stated by the Haryana Home Minister, Mr Mani Ram Godara, at Shekhupur Daroli village on Friday while inaugurating a water supply scheme in the village. The water works has been constructed at a cost of Rs 48 lakh.

Elected:

PANIPAT
Deputation:
A deputation of the local industrialists met Mr Anurag Rastogi, Deputy Commissioner, under the presidentship of Mr Ravi Goyal, president, Industrial Area Manufacturers Association and submitted a memorandum to him regarding their demands which include roads repairing, sewerage cleaning, tubewell for drinking water and maintenance of parks and street lights in industrial area. Mr Rastogi assured them.

Function: The annual prize distribution function of the local SD College held here on Sunday. Dr Kailash Singla, visiting adviser, Ganga Ram and Jaipur Golden Hospital, Delhi, was the chief guest and gave away the prizes.

SIRSA
Suicide:
Krishan Kumar, a class IV employee posted at Nathusari Chopta police station in this district, died at the local Civil Hospital on Sunday. According to sources, he consumed poison in frustration at his house.

Blood donation camp: The local branch of the Lions Club organised a blood donation camp here on Sunday in which 20 units of blood were collected. Mr Pradeep Rathusaria, secretary of club, said a blood check-up camp was also organised in which 200 persons were examined by a team of doctors, including Dr G.S Somani and Dr C.P Dhadich of Civil Hospital.

Sewerage blocked: Residents of the local Begu road, Patel Basti, Maharaja Agarsain colony and its adjoining areas in a joint complaint to the Government has demanded the replacement of sewerage lines in the area as the system has collapsed. The residents alleged that the officials concerned were helpless in this matter due to shortage of funds.

College function: Professor Ganeshi Lal, Minister of Civil Supplies, Haryana, presided over the annual prize distribution function of Bhagwan Shri Krishan College of Education for Women at Mandi Dabwali, 60 km from here, on Saturday. The Minister stressed upon women's education. He inaugurated a hostel building of the college constructed at cost of Rs 15 lakh and announced a grant of Rs 50,000 for the college. A cultural programme was also organised. He also gave away the prizes.

Suicide: Ravinder Singh (25) of Bani village allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison on Friday. The body was sent to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem.

Resentment: Resentment prevails among workers of the local GTM Synthetic Mill for its lock-up. A meeting of the workers was held under the leadership of Mr Baldev Raj to discuss the matter and alleged that the lock-up was unlawful. They demanded action against owners of the factory.

Cases solved: A meeting of the Public Grievance Committee was held on Friday at the local Panchayat Bhavan. The Haryana Minister for Excise and Taxation, Mr O.P. Mahajan, presided over the meeting. As many as seven of the 14 complaints were solved on the spot.top

HAMIRPUR
Set aside:
Mr Subhash Nanda, SDO ( Civil ), Nadaun, has set-aside the election of Mr Ajit Singh, pradhan of Gram Panchayat, Jhareri (Kangoo) on charges of adopting corrupt practices during the elections. Mr Sarnu Ram has filed the election petition for the same.

SHIMLA
RSS function:
The Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh will celebrate the new year on March 18, according to the 'Vikrami Calendar'. The main function will be held at Gaiety Theatre here where Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal be the chief guest. He will also release the special issue of a monthly magazine 'Matri-Vandana', a spokesman of the RSS said. Similar functions will be held in all districts.
